My choice of subject matter was inspired by not only my budget as a college art student, but also what I love most about photography - the ability to transform what people see into something with a completely different meaning. I wandered into 99¢ stores in my neighborhood after spending too much on what I originally wanted to shoot, trying to find what I could cheaply buy and photograph. I discovered that I was strangely drawn to cheap plastic and a playful color palette. All of my photos are products of one another. Experimenting with transforming these items through scale, and using other mediums like paint led me to use certain elements of a photo as my inspiration for the next. I wanted my work as a whole to be a visual representation of my world as an artist, in which I envision items like pink plastic shower curtains and pineapples being stripped of their uses into materials of a sculptural quality.
